Product inquiry

Seamless, welded, or drawn: Which stainless steel pipes are suitable for your project?

Different types of tubes are used depending on the area of application, mechanical stress, and cost target. Stainless steel tubes differ not only in their manufacture but also in their physical properties—with a direct impact on pressure resistance, weight, weldability, and price. We offer three technically sophisticated variants, each with specific advantages.

Seamless stainless steel tubes for maximum pressure loads

Seamless precision stainless steel pipes are manufactured by hot forming without a weld seam and then cold drawn. This construction method allows for even wall distribution and eliminates critical seam zones – ideal for applications with high operating pressures or demanding media, e.g., in pneumatics, medical technology, or chemical process engineering.

Our seamless tubes comply with EN 10216-5 TC1 and ASTM A213/A269 standards and are available in diameters from 0.1 mm to 60 mm. Typical materials are 1.4404 (V4A) and 1.4571 for maximum corrosion resistance, even when exposed to chloride or acid.

Welded stainless steel tubes – economical all-rounders

Welded stainless steel tubes are produced by longitudinal seam welding of stainless steel strip. They are more cost-effective to produce and particularly efficient for larger diameters and thinner wall thicknesses. Good tolerances can be achieved through calibration or additional drawing.

We supply welded tubes in accordance with EN ISO 1127, both in standard design (D4/T3) and finely calibrated. Typical areas of application are apparatus engineering, food technology, and industrial fluid lines.

Welded-drawn precision tubes – high tolerance and cost-efficient

When high dimensional accuracy needs to be combined with economical production, welded-drawn stainless steel tubes are the first choice. They combine the advantages of both manufacturing processes: low manufacturing costs of welding with the tight tolerances and improved surface quality of cold drawing.

This variant is ideal for applications in sensor technology, electronics, and automation, where tight bore fits and dimensionally stable components are required – even with the thinnest wall thicknesses.

Dimensions from 0.05 to 105 mm: the finest tolerances for every stainless steel tube

Every micrometer counts in the development and manufacture of precision assemblies. That is why we offer stainless steel tubes in an exceptionally wide range of dimensions – from ultra-fine capillary tubes to robust structural tubes. Whether you need a single piece or series production, our manufacturing and warehousing are geared towards tailor-made solutions.

Thin-walled tubes from 0.03 mm wall thickness

Thin-walled stainless steel tubes are essential for applications where weight, thermal conductivity, or miniaturization play a role – such as in medical technology, aviation, or sensor technology. We manufacture tubes with wall thicknesses from 0.03 mm, some as seamless variants, some welded and drawn with excellent roundness.

Typical outer diameters start at 0.1 mm. In combination with bright drawn or electropolished surfaces, these tubes enable maximum functional reliability – even in complex assemblies or in sterile environments.

Standard diameters from 1 mm to 60 mm

For many industrial applications, the focus is on diameters in the range of 1 mm to 60 mm – for example, in automation technology, pneumatics, or food processing. In this range, both V2A and V4A stainless steel tubes in various tolerance classes are available directly from stock.

We stock stainless steel tubes in a wide range of dimensions, such as:

  • 1 mm
  • 2 mm
  • 3 mm
  • 5 mm
  • 25 mm
  • 40 mm
  • 50 mm
  • 60 mm

All tubes can be supplied in fixed lengths or coils – burr-free, true to angle, and with 3.1 certification on request.

Fixed lengths, coils, and special profiles

In addition to classic round tubes, we also manufacture a wide range of special shapes and processing formats tailored to specific manufacturing processes or designs. These include polygonal geometries, curved designs, and tubes in coil form for automatic feeding systems. All variants are also available in dimensionally accurate fixed lengths burr-free, true to angle, and precisely cut with a tolerance of up to ±0.05 mm.

Particularly popular are, among others:

  • Stainless steel tube coils for series production with continuous processing
  • Cylinder tubes with high internal roundness for pneumatic or hydraulic applications
  • Double-walled stainless steel tubes, e.g., for media lines with insulation
  • Bent stainless steel tubes and preformed tube sections for direct integration into assemblies

These variants are available with various surface finishes such as ground, pickled, or polished—depending on visual requirements and technical functionality.

Materials: From V2A to duplex – choosing the right stainless steel tube material

Choosing the right material is crucial for the durability and functionality of your stainless steel pipes. We exclusively process stainless, acid- and heat-resistant stainless steels which, depending on the alloy, meet the highest requirements in terms of corrosion resistance, strength, or weldability. Standard materials such as V2A and V4A as well as high-quality special alloys are available.

Austenitic classics 1.4301 / 1.4404

The materials 1.4301 (V2A) and 1.4404 (V4A) are among the most commonly used stainless steel grades – universally applicable, easy to weld and with excellent resistance to water, moisture and many weak acids. They are ideal for applications in the food industry, apparatus engineering or the furniture sector.

Compared to 1.4301, 1.4404 offers significantly better resistance to chlorides and is therefore preferred for use in medical technology, chemistry, and the maritime sector.

Acid-resistant V4A alloys

In addition to standard V4A, we also offer advanced materials such as 1.4435 (316L-Mo) and 1.4571 (316Ti). These variants are particularly suitable for aggressive media or higher temperatures.

Typical areas of application:

  • Pharmaceutical and biotechnology plants (1.4435, with low sulfur content)
  • High-temperature applications or welded constructions (1.4571, with titanium stabilization)

These alloys comply with international standards such as EN 10216-5 and ASTM A269 and are available with 3.1 certification on request.

High-strength duplex and special alloys

For the most demanding requirements—such as in offshore technology, petrochemicals, or tunnel construction—we offer duplex and super duplex steels as well as special nickel alloys through our international partner network. These materials are characterized by high strength and excellent corrosion resistance.

Our experts will be happy to advise you on the selection of suitable grades for special media, high-chloride environments, or pressure-bearing structures.

Surface treatment: Ground, polished, and electropolished stainless steel pipes

The surface of a stainless steel tube not only influences its appearance, but also its corrosion resistance, hygiene, and further processability. Depending on the area of application, we offer a wide range of mechanical and chemical finishing processes that give the tubes functional and aesthetic properties – from decorative grinding to sterile high-gloss polishing.

Mechanical grinding up to 400 grit

Ground surfaces are often standard for visible areas, apparatus engineering, or technical components with defined friction coefficients. Our tubes are available in various grain sizes, e.g.:

  • Grit 180 to grit 400 for brushed or finely satin-finished surfaces
  • Scotch-Brite finish for an evenly matt, textured appearance
  • Centerless ground for round precision tubes with high surface quality

These variants are particularly suitable for stainless steel round tubes, square tubes, and bent components where the finish determines the function.

Pickling, passivation, and electropolishing

We also use chemical finishing to meet the highest standards of purity, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility. These processes are particularly in demand in the medical technology, pharmaceutical, and food industries.

  • Pickling and passivation remove tarnish and activate the chromium oxide layer.
  • Electropolishing produces a mirror-like, pore-free surface with minimal particle adhesion
  • Glass bead and sand blasting enable matt, evenly structured surfaces for technical applications

These treatments can also be combined with mechanical grinding – e.g., for cylindrical tubes or stainless steel pipes for water pipes, where hygiene and appearance go hand in hand.

Decorative finishes such as Scotch-Brite

In architecture, interior design, or visible components in plant engineering, aesthetic appearance plays just as important a role as functionality. Our Scotch-Brite-ground stainless steel tubes are characterized by a uniform, silk-matt line structure that looks elegant, gently reflects light, and is also resistant to fingerprints.

The following variants are typically available:

  • V2A and V4A stainless steel tubes with diameters from 6 mm to 60 mm
  • 4-square and round tubes in dimensionally accurate fixed lengths
  • Curved or preformed stainless steel tubes, e.g., for railing systems, furniture, or equipment cladding

Thanks to its combination of appearance, ease of care, and robustness, the Scotch-Brite surface is particularly popular in public and professional areas—from gastronomy and vehicle construction to medical technology.
