Functions and advantages of guide sleeves

Guide sleeves play a central role in technical designs: they enable the precise positioning and guidance of shafts, rods, or screws, serve as spacers, and ensure low-friction movement of components. Especially in applications with tight tolerances and high loads, they make a decisive contribution to the functional reliability and durability of your systems.

A major advantage is the possibility of simplifying the design, speeding up assembly, and reducing material and manufacturing costs by using suitable sleeves. Stainless steel guide sleeves are also characterized by their excellent corrosion resistance, making them ideal for demanding environments—such as in the food industry, chemical apparatus engineering, or medical devices.

Variety of variants: spacer sleeves, threaded sleeves, and special solutions

Guide sleeves are as versatile as their areas of application – from simple spacers to high-precision, mechanically machined components with complex geometries. Depending on the technical requirements, we offer a wide variety of designs: with or without threads, with collar or flange, slotted, with keyway or as a pure spacer sleeve.

Our large selection of standard variants is complemented by customized special solutions that are tailored precisely to your specific requirements – from prototype production to series delivery.

Spacer sleeve – defined distances without compromise

Spacer sleeves are always used when two components need to be kept at a uniform and precise distance – for example, in electronics, vehicle construction, or bearing and sealing systems. They ensure structural integrity and prevent mechanical stress caused by uneven force distribution.

Our stainless steel or brass spacer sleeves are manufactured with burr-free cut edges, high length accuracy, and tight tolerances. This not only saves assembly time, but also increases process reliability and reduces rework. We can also manufacture spacer sleeves with slots, bores, or threads—entirely according to your specifications.

Sleeve with internal thread / threaded sleeve – secure screw connection solutions

Threaded sleeves are an efficient solution when precise screw connections are required in metallic or non-metallic components. They enable a form-fitting connection, are easy to install, and their compact design makes them ideal for installation in confined spaces.

Our sleeves with internal threads – also known as threaded sleeves – are available in various dimensions, for example with metric threads from M2 to M12+. We offer optional variants with integrated 2K screw locking, which have proven particularly effective in dynamically loaded applications.

These components can be found, for example, in sensor mountings, clamping systems, or device housings. Thanks to the use of high-quality stainless steel, they are also suitable for use in corrosive environments or outdoors. For lighter applications, we also offer sleeves with brass or engineering plastic threads as an alternative.

Sleeve with collar, flange, or keyway – additional fixation and positive locking

In many technical designs, it is not sufficient to simply position a sleeve axially – additional mechanical fasteners are required. This is exactly where sleeves with collars, flanges, or keyways come into play.

A sleeve with a collar prevents slipping in bores and offers a larger contact surface, which improves force distribution – especially with soft or thin-walled materials. The collar can also serve as a stop surface for assembly. Manufactured in stainless steel, this results in a durable and easy-to-assemble solution, as used in apparatus engineering or sensor integration, among other things.

Sleeves with flanges extend this function even further: they offer additional axial fixation and can be fastened with screws or weld spots. This is a clear advantage, especially in dynamically loaded assemblies, such as in drive or vehicle technology.

A sleeve with a keyway focuses on form-fit torque transmission. It is used wherever rotating shafts need to be connected to other components in a force-fit manner – for example, in coupling systems or positioning shafts in mechanical engineering.

We manufacture special solutions such as these precisely to customer specifications, with tight tolerances and, on request, including surface treatment – from satin to high-gloss polished.

Slotted sleeves and other special geometries

Slotted sleeves and special shapes offer decisive advantages for applications with special mechanical requirements. The typical longitudinal slot of a slotted sleeve provides elastic preload, causing the sleeve to contract slightly when pressed in and then fix itself in the borehole. Such designs are ideal for press fits, spring contacts, or as inserts in plastic housings.

In addition, we can produce complex geometries, including cross bores, milled recesses, wrench sizes, engravings, or combinations of internal and external threads. This is made possible by our state-of-the-art 5-axis tube laser, which enables even the finest machining operations to be carried out precisely and reproducibly directly on the tube material.

Another advantage: laser-based machining often eliminates the need for additional post-processing steps, saving not only time but also material and costs. This flexibility makes us the ideal partner for customer-specific special parts in small and large series.

Materials in comparison: stainless steel sleeve, brass sleeve & other alloys

Choosing the right material is crucial for the function, service life, and cost-effectiveness of a guide sleeve. At Interalloy, we offer a wide range of materials tailored to your technical, mechanical, and chemical requirements.

Our expertise ranges from stainless steel and brass to non-ferrous metals and engineering plastics. We provide you with individual advice on which combination of materials is best suited to your application – whether in plant engineering, electrical engineering, or medical technology.

Stainless steel sleeve 1.4301 – 1.4571: corrosion-resistant, low wear

Stainless steel guide sleeves are the first choice for applications where corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and durability are paramount. We process a wide range of stainless steel grades – including 1.4301, 1.4404, 1.4435, and 1.4571 – for the most demanding requirements in food technology, medical technology, the chemical industry, and outdoor applications.

Thanks to tight manufacturing tolerances, precise surface finishing, and optional polished or glass bead blasted surfaces, our stainless steel sleeves meet even the most stringent standards – both in terms of hygiene and technical stress. They offer maximum stability and tightness, especially in tube-based assemblies such as housing tubes or tube housings.

Brass sleeves and alternative materials

Brass sleeves are particularly in demand in applications where good machinability, electrical conductivity, or a high-quality appearance are required. They are ideal for use in electrical engineering, equipment manufacturing, or as decorative components in interior design. Variants with nickel-plated surfaces are also available from us.
